Baptist Student Ministry

SJBA’s Baptist Student Ministry

at Lee College in Baytown

We are taught to give credit where credit is due – therefore, all credit always belongs to God. Countless blessings confirm that the BSM is this year’s first step in reaching a campus of incredibly important young adults. My devotional this morning included reminders I would like to share from the book: Practicing the Presence of God. If we are allowed to work for and with God there are a few points that cannot and must not be denied: 1. Teaching Salvation through Jesus’ sacrifice. 2. Faithfully teaching that God is always present in each of our lives – whether we acknowledge Him or not. 3. We must keep our eyes on God alone. The book even says, “particularly when something is being done in the outside world.” In my search for scripture to back up these thoughts I noticed the following words were listed before and after the word “Presence:” Precious, Predestined, Prediction, Prepare and Prepared, PRESENCE, Present, Preserves, Prize, and then Proclaim. Will you take a moment to consider how each word applies to your life as well as the BSM? God has a plan. Period. And I am loving it!

Baptist Student Ministry Thursday Lunch

What do we bring?  What do we do?

  1. Bring full meal, enough for about 30 students. Note this is about 30 young, hungry students.  The possibilities for food are numerous, just something good to eat, and plenty of it!  Better to have a little too much, than not enough.
  1. Bring all needed eating utensils: plates, bowls, napkins, serving spoons, spoons & forks, salt & pepper, artificial sweetener, salad dressing (the line goes faster if the tops are left off the salad dressing), ice, cups, drinks (if possible, bring some sugar-free), etc.  Since we don’t own the building, we cannot store supplies.
  1. Lunch begins on Thursday between 11:45 am and 12:00 pm (noon). Please do not begin to serve before then.  Otherwise students leave before the devotional.  You only need to arrive in time to be ready to serve at 11:45. Most churches arrive between 11:15 am and 11:30 am.
  1. The BSM Lunch is held currently being held at the Security Building (at the corner of Republic St and Whiting St). Link to Lee College’s Interactive Campus Map:  https://www.lee.edu/maps/
  1. When the speaker begins there will very likely be other students coming in, getting in line, and eating. Continue to serve food, but while the speaker is talking, if at all possible, please do not talk amongst yourselves.  In the relatively small room, others talking can make it very difficult to hear.
  1. The missions offering / donation (first time free, then a one dollar donation if you have it) goes to support summer and semester student missionaries.
  1. We have no guarantee how many LC students and staff will show up. Events occur beyond our control.  But usually 30 is a safe number to prepare for.
  1. This BSM Lunch is a big encouragement and help to students. Some have said it’s the only regular meal they get.  The lunch you provide makes a big difference.  It also offers us an opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and God’s Word to the campus.  Thank you for providing this meal!  Remember us in your prayers.

Sincerely,

Tina Wash
