The museum opened on January 10\, 1990\, the anniversary of the Spindletop gusher. \n  \n  \nThe Fire Museum of Texas is located in the former Central Fire Station built in 1927. The Fire Museum is dedicated to  preserving fire service history\, educating people about fire & life safety and the contributions of the fire service. Collections are housed in the original art deco building which served as the first terminal for passenger flight in Houston. The 1940 Air Terminal Museum is comprised of several galleries with cases containing aviation memorabilia\, such as silver service items\, models\, documents\, and photographs. The museum’s terminal building is air-conditioned\, but the bay of the 1928 Carter Airmail Hangar is not.
